Appreciation of Beauty and Excellence

This programme is actually a component and continuation of our last year¡¦s ¡§Life Investment Series¡¨ that deals with the identification and development of one¡¦s 24 character strengths.

Various activities to promote the selected character strength ¡V ¡§Appreciation of Beauty and Excellence¡¨ will be offered throughout the academic year.

¡§Putting Life into Rocks¡¨ - ¬¡¤Æ. ¥Û

The session consists of a power point presentation of various rocks pieces to illustrate how they are painted and converted into pictures of various living forms and a rock painting activity. It aims to introduce a creative way to achieve fulfillment and heightened your self-awareness.

You will examine some rocks of your choice, share with other participants your perception and feelings towards them, and turn those selected rocks into a unique tool of self-expression by painting them. Last but not the least, there will be a tour round Helena May heritage building and you will see for yourselves how members of the Helena May Institute conserve and put life into this old building.

Objectives:

  1. To gain a deeper understanding of your perception on beauty and excellence through appreciating and painting rocks
  2. To experience character strengths, inspiration, hope, curiosity, fun and laughter, the effects of positive and negative feelings on your rock painting work and what makes life interesting when you savor your achievements.
  3. To experience how people affect others when they come as a group in civic engagements at the Helena May Institute through touring Helena May heritage building

Facilitator
Mrs. Ruth W Lau, alumna of the University of Hong Kong. She has gained a BA (Hons) degree, a Diploma in Education, a Certificate in Psychology and M Soc Science in Educational Psychology from the University of Hong Kong. Since graduation she joined the Hong Kong Government and retired from service as Principal Education Officer in 2006. She is presently serving on the Community Outreach Committee of the Helena May.

¡§The Truth, the Good and the Beautiful of the World¡¨ ¡V A sharing session by Ms Mary Cheung¡]±iº¿²ú¤p©j¡^

Ms Mary Cheung
Professional Image Consultant and Versatile Artist

Ms Cheung is a personage widely admired not only for her physical beauty but her versatile talents. She was a former Miss Hong Kong. After winning the beauty contest, she excelled in various fields including entertainment, art and commerce. In recent years, she has been recognized as a gifted artist whose works of painting and photography have won wide acclaim. Currently she is working as an image consultant.

At this meeting, Ms Cheung will share with you her aesthetic concepts and attitude towards life through an exhibition of her works of photography.
