Audio Description

Service description

Audio Description (AD) is a type of ‘Audiovisual Translation’ that assists people who are blind or visually impaired in comprehending visual images. It can be applied to a wide range of materials and settings including televisions, cinemas, exhibitions and even arts performances. Audio describers are trained to provide concise, vivid and objective commentary or narration to guide the listeners by describing key elements of images, including characters’ facial expressions and movements, settings, transitions of scenes, and even ‘sight gags’.

Here are some service videos with AD drafted by our SEN PIN members:

Audio description increases the accessibility of visual images. More importantly, it helps to create an inclusive environment that respects the right of people with disabilities or SEN to participate in cultural life and social activities on an equal basis as others.

Students will be trained to acquire essential skills in audio description, and be responsible in drafting audio description scripts as well as recording the scripts for informative short videos.
