Last year, Kathy Tsoi Ka Wai, a third year business student, participated in the Citi-HKCSS Community Intern Program organised by Citigroup Inc. and the Hong Kong Council of Social Service. This internship programme aims to nurture socially responsible business leaders for the future. Kathy was surprised when she was notified to be one of the awardees of “Grand Awards for Excellence”. “80 participants joined this programme and only 2 teams would receive the award. I was so thankful for receiving this recognition,” she expressed.
“I was so thankful for receiving this recognition.”
Throughout the internship, Kathy had a horizon-broadening experience working in a non-governmental organization called Kids4Kids. She had the opportunity to organise different events and to draft annual reports, as well as to work on data processing. “I have gained more hands-on experiences in working with students and non-profit organizations. It was an eye-opening experience for me since I could have better understanding of the local community,” Tsoi noted.
The programme also cultivated the concept of corporate social responsibility and developed her a sense of responsibility to the society. “One of the training sessions engaged me in understanding the obstacles faced by the elderly. I could know more about poverty and aging problems in Hong Kong. Therefore, it gave me a sense of mission to contribute to the society,” she said with enthusiasm.
Speaking of the challenges, Kathy recalled that one of the difficulties was to think from the students’ perspectives. “During the internship, I held different workshops for students and taught them English. Through this journey, I have learnt to help equip students with knowledge in an exhilarating way and to arouse their learning interest,” recalled Kathy.

As a concluding remark, Kathy expressed her gratitude to Citigroup Inc. and the Hong Kong Council of Social Service for organising this insightful programme. “I also want to thank Kids4Kids for giving me the chance to explore new different things!”
