Online Mindful Arts Workshops on Life & Death

Ho Wai Man's Story

Under the pandemisc, we may experience different emotions, like fear, disappointment, anger, sadness, etc. When Hong Kong logs high of new daily records over 100 cases for a few days, would some of us feel more anxious about potential losses, uncertainties, and death? Isn’t it an excellent time to talk about death? I think we are where we should be and now is always the best time to reflect more on life and death. Therefore, I hosted three free online Mindful Arts Workshops on Life & Death in August.

"We cannot control what happen to us but we can have different ways to react to it."

In these three online workshops, I am grateful that I could utilize my skills and experience. Mindful exercises were used to raise the awareness of here and now, our beings, emotions, and thoughts. Using art, we could express our inner process freely and creatively. One of the topics of the workshops was about designing the graduation ceremony of our life. I led participants to imagine if they die because of the coronavirus infection and how they would design their ideal funeral, who they would invite, and what messages they want to pass on. Some participants expressed that they have never thought about the death of their own selves and it was a great opportunity to reflect on it.

As the Covid-19 death tolls continue to rise around the globe, what can we possibly learn from it? We cannot control what happen to us but we can have different ways to react to it. In this pandemic, we have learnt that how vulnerable human life is and how resilient we are.
