Ricci Hall

Ricci Hall was founded in 1929 by the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), a religious order of men in the Catholic Church, which is famous for transformative and holistic Catholic education. It is named after Matteo Ricci (1552-1610), a renown Italian Jesuit missionary to China and a pioneer in bridging the cultures of the East and the West. Located at 93 Pok Fu Lam Road, Ricci Hall is one of the oldest residential halls at the University of Hong Kong. It is a male hall, with long history and deep heritage. It enjoys a large network of alumni and is part of the global network of Jesuit education. Ricci Hall has five separate blocks that are connected in order to foster communication among residents. Ricci Hall features a unique architectural structure with 131 single rooms, each with its own balcony and 16 corridors. The hall offers single rooms, a dining hall, catered living (three meals per day), a pantry at the end of each corridor, 24-hour drinking water, a chapel, a sitting room, two libraries, a tennis court, and a car park. The
mission of Ricci Hall is to provide an environment in which students, living in
brotherhood, can grow and mature spiritually, intellectually, emotionally,
socially, culturally and physically; where they can deepen their knowledge of their
own selves and concern and care for others, and, inspired by and in imitation
of the example of our Patron Jesuit Father Matteo Ricci, use the gifts they
have received in the generous service of others. Ricci Motto Quantum Potes Tantum
Aude. 汝為君子儒, 無為小人儒. "As much as you are able, that you should dare to do." Brotherhood We live together to strive for our common goals in Ricci Hall. In this way, we improve together, commit to each other, and cultivate a unique lifelong Brotherhood. Ricci Spirit Unity - Loyalty – Sacrifice. We believe that Brotherhood will be cultivated as we cultivate the Ricci Spirit. Riccian Character By participating in sports, cultural and hall activities, students in Ricci Hall form and shape their characters through the practice of Ricci Spirit, through living the Ricci Motto, and from the values inherited from previous generations of Riccians. Once a Riccian, Always a Riccian
Since its establishment
in 1929, Ricci Hall has provided leaders for all walks of life in society. In this
Hall our old boys learnt their most treasured values, such as excellence,
service, commitment, and friendship. Ricci Hall is where Boys become Men. |
