上學期的工作坊提到會議傳譯員一心二用的能力，以及活用科技的秘訣。今個學期，張敬文博士將繼續傳授他的秘密武器，讓同學不但更能掌握中英語，更能提升說話的技巧。歡迎所有同學參與。
This semester, Dr. Cheung will continue sharing his technique for excelling as a Conference Interpreter, including the ability to switch between languages, as well as enhancing speaking skills. This series of workshops is suitable for all students. No prior experience is needed.
Session 1 第一節： Conference Interpreters Don’t Just Interpret 點止講嘢咁簡單
A conference interpreter, like an orator, has a silver tongue. The speakers tell the audience what they have prepared, a conference interpreter tells the audience what the speakers have prepared in another language. And we may not know what the speakers are going to say. The audience gets the original message by listening, and they listen once only. A conference interpreter must have an excellent command of spoken language: accurate pronunciation, clear enunciation, and fluent delivery.
But conference interpreting is not just about speaking; it is about public speaking. We will acquire such oratorical skills as varying our pace, tone, and volume to stress those important points as well as establishing a rapport with the audience with body language. The public speaking skills of conference interpreters are instrumental to your study of any discipline and your career development, whether you intend to become a conference interpreter or other professional.
會議傳譯員跟演說家一樣口若懸河。講者將他們準備好的內容告訴觀眾，會議傳譯員則把講者準備好的內容以另一種語言告訴觀眾，而大家也許不知道講者接著會說甚麽。觀眾取得訊息，要靠聆聽，而且只能聽一遍。會議傳譯員要精通口語，發音準確、吐字清晰、表達流暢。
但會議傳譯更是一種公開演說，正所謂「點止講嘢咁簡單」。大家要掌握各種演說技巧，包括注意節奏緩急、語氣輕重、音量大小，以突出重點，還要利用身體語言跟觀眾交流。無論大家有意成為會議傳譯員還是其他專業人士，掌握了上述公開演說技巧，學習還是發展事業，定當無往而不利。

Session 2 第二節：Thinking Global, Going Trilingual 放眼世界 兩文三語
At such international organisations as the United Nations and the European Union, the official spoken form of Chinese is Putonghua while conference interpreters working in Hong Kong have to switch between Cantonese, English, and Putonghua. The policy of “biliteracy and trilingualism” is pivotal to maintaining Hong Kong’s position as an international financial centre. Among the first generation of simultaneous interpreters serving at the Nuremberg Trial, some even mastered four languages. Becoming multi-lingual is not just a dream.
But conference interpreting is not merely a matter of language, it is also a matter of knowledge. What a professional interpreter knows goes far beyond the translation of technical terms and proper nouns. They must know something about the subject matter: politics and international relations, economics and finance, science and technology, and law. You just name it. Conference interpreters achieve synergy by combining their language ability and knowledge. With proper training, we can do that.
但會議傳譯不僅是語言問題，也是知識問題。專業傳譯員所知道的，遠遠不止於專有名詞和術語怎樣翻譯。他們對主題也要懂得一點點，無論是政治、國際關係、經濟金融、科技、法律，總之是大家想得出的主題。傳譯員把語文能力和知識結合，便可以做到「一加一大於二」。接受過適當的培訓，你我都做得到。
在聯合國和歐盟等國際組織，中文的正式口語是普通話；在香港當會議傳譯員，則要在粵語、英語、普通話之間進行轉換。「兩文三語」這一政策對維持香港作爲國際金融中心的地位至關重要。第一代的同聲傳譯員在紐倫堡審訊中提供服務，當中有些人甚至精通四種語言。同時掌握多種語言，不是一個夢。

Bio of Instructor(s) 導師簡介:
 | 張敬文博士 (資深翻譯員及傳譯員) Dr. Cheung King Man BSc (University of London) MSc (University of London) JD (City University of Hong Kong) DBA (Curtin University of Technology) 張敬文博士於1987年加入香港公務員行列，於2003年退休，離任時為高級中文主任。1991至2003年期間，他派駐法定語文事務署普通話傳譯組，負責翻譯內地與香港政府的來往公文，並於內地與香港官員進行的高層會議上提供英語／普通話傳譯服務。 他於2005年完成有關公營機構改革的博士論文，獲澳洲科廷科技大學頒授工商管理博士學位，並於2008年以優異成績獲香港城市大學頒授法律博士學位。自2006年起，張博士先後在多間專上院校擔任兼職講師，包括城市大學、香港大學、香港恒生大學及香港浸會大學，教授有關翻譯及傳譯的學士和碩士課程。他亦先後爲法定語文事務部及廉政公署主持多個講座，講題包括經濟學、財經翻譯及會議傳譯。 Dr. Cheung King Man joined the Hong Kong Civil Service in 1987 and retired in 2003 as a Senior Chinese Language Officer. He was posted to the then Putonghua Interpretation Section of the Official Languages Division from 1991 to 2003. Apart from translating documents relating to various channels of governmental contacts between Hong Kong and the Mainland of China, he was also responsible for providing English/Putonghua interpretation services at high-level meetings between Hong Kong and Mainland officials. He was awarded a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) degree by Curtin University of Technology, Australia in 2005 after completing his doctoral thesis on public sector reform. In 2008, he was awarded the degree of Juris Doctor (JD) with distinction by City University of Hong Kong. Dr. Cheung has taught undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in translation and interpretation on a part-time basis since 2006 at various institutions, including City University of Hong Kong, The University of Hong Kong, the Hang Seng University of Hong Kong, and Hong Kong Baptist University. He has also conducted several workshops for the Official Languages Division and the Independent Commission Against Corruption on topics covering economics, financial translation and conference interpreting. |
