Grand Opening of Catering Outpost III - iBakery by TWGHs

The new catering outpost - iBakery, runs by a local NGO Tung Wah Group of Hospitals (TWGHs), will commence its operation in full starting from 10:30 a.m. on October 30, 2012 (Tuesday) at the Run Run Shaw Podium (near bookstore). The outpost opens from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on weekdays, and closed on Saturday and Sunday. You may refer to the menu and price list here. Please DO stop by and grab some buns and cookies if you pass by! See you there!!

Opening of Main Library (Old Wing) Coffee Shop - October 18, 2012, 10:00 a.m.

The Library Coffee Shop is brewing again!  CEDARS is pleased to announce that the New Coffee Shop at G/F of Main Library (Old Wing) will be opened on October 18, 2012 (coming Thursday) at 10:00 a.m. promptly.  You are most welcome to come and enjoy a sip of coffee.  The operation hours of the Library Coffee Shop is as follows:-

Mon – Fri: 7:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Sat: 7:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Sun & Public Holidays: 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Gentle reminder: remember to bring your own tumbler to enjoy a $3 discount for each beverage! 

CEDARS: Update on Campus Catering Services (Sep 2012)

1. New Catering Outlets in the Centennial Campus

Four new catering outlets are in the Centennial Campus, offering a total of more than 300 seats (not including outdoor ones), and they are:-

A) Pasta Di Mio @ LG/F The Jockey Club Tower

• opening in early Nov 2012

• fine dining, pizza and pasta and beverages 

• support reception services for functions the lecture theatres

B) Delifrance @ G/F The Jockey Club Tower, Central Podium

• opening on Sep 11, 2012

• western-style meals, fast food, sandwiches and beverages 

C) Super Super Congee & Noodles (一粥麵) @ G/F Run Run Shaw Tower, Central Podium

• opening on Sep 17, 2012

• congee, dumpling & Guangdong Style noodle and beverages   

D) BIJAS Vegetarian (一念素食) @ G/F Run Run Shaw Tower, Central Podium

• opening on Sep 11, 2012

• a social enterprise providing vegetarian and healthy organic food

In addition, four new catering outposts will be set up in the Main Campus.  They will provide mainly grab-and-go services.

A) FRU:YO Factory @ 3/F Chong Yuet Ming Amenities Centre

• opening on Sep 17, 2012

• frozen yoghurt, croissant and beverages 

B) Subway @ Run Run Shaw Podium (near HSBC)

• opening in Oct 2012

• submarine sandwiches, snacks and beverages 

C) iBakery by Tung Wah Group of Hospitals @ Run Run Shaw Podium (near Bookstore)

• opening in Oct 2012

• a social enterprise offering bakery products and beverages

(Note: simple grab-n-go service will be offered at this site from Sep 17, 2012 until the construction of the outpost is completed.)

D) Mangrove @ Library Covered Podium

• opening on Sep 17, 2012

• Japanese / Korean Style Bento, snacks, sandwiches and beverages

3. Main Library (Old Wing) Coffee Shop and New Coffee Shop at the Union Premises of the Composite Building

Both coffee shops will be operated by Starbucks Coffee - Coffee Concepts.  The one at the Union premises (next to entrance of Simon K.Y. Lee Hall) will commence operation in late Sep 2012, while the Library Coffee Shop will open in Oct 2012.

Menu Price Adjustment - CYMAC Restaurant Outlet A, CYMAC Restaurant Outlet B, Bay View Restaurant

The University has duly considered and approved the application of three caterers for their upward price adjustments w.e.f. September 1, 2012.  The average price raise and details are as follows:-

1. Maxim’s Caterers Ltd. – CYMAC Restaurant Outlet A

2. Kater International Ltd. – CYMAC Restaurant Outlet B

3. Lucky Channel Ltd. – Bay View Restaurant

New Catering Outlets in the Centennial Campus and New Catering Outposts in the Main Campus

There will be four new catering outlets in the Centennial Campus.  They will provide a total of more than 300 seats (not including outdoor ones).  The outlets are:

• Delifrance (western-style meals, fast food, sandwiches and beverages) 

• Super Super Congee & Noodles (一粥麵) (congee, dumpling & Guangdong Style noodle and beverages)    

• BIJAS Vegetarian (一念素食) (a social enterprise providing vegetarian and healthy organic food) 

N.B.:- Pasta Di Mio will open in late October and the other three will start before the beginning of the semester. 

In addition, four new catering kiosks will be introduced in the Main Campus.  They will provide grab-and-go services.

• SUBWAY @ Run Run Shaw Podium (near HSBC) (submarine sandwiches, snacks and beverages)

Except SUBWAY, all kiosks will start their service at the beginning of the academic year. Subway will start a couple of weeks later.

It is anticipated that extreme bad weather is going to affect the territories this evening.  Please note that ALL campus catering outlets will be closed soon after typhoon signal No.8 is hoisted.

All campus catering outlets will be closed if typhoon signal No.8 is still hoisted before 8:00 a.m. the next day.  Normal services shall be resumed not later than three hours after typhoon signal No. 8 has been lowered, unless this occurs after 3:30 p.m. in which case service shall be resumed on the following day.

Early Re-opening of Fong Shu Chuen Amenities Centre Restaurant

In view of the high demand for catering services in the Main Campus during the summer break, CEDARS has asked and the operator of the FSCAC Restaurant agreed to re-open the restaurant earlier on July 23, 2012 (next Monday).  The operation hours of the FSCAC Restaurant from July 23, 2012 onwards would be as follows:-

Period: July 23, 2012 – August 12, 2012

Operation hours:
11:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. (Mon – Fri)
CLOSED (Sat)
CLOSED (Sun and Public Holidays)
[N.B.:-Lunch and Afternoon Tea services only]

Period: August 13, 2012 onwards

Operation hours:
7:30 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. (Mon – Fri)
11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. (Sat)
CLOSED (Sun and Public Holidays)

Fong Shu Chuen Amenities Centre Restaurant - Summer Closure

The Fong Shu Chuen Amenities Centre Restaurant on 2/F of Swire Building will be closed during summer from June 1, 2012 to August 12, 2012. Normal services will be resumed on August 13, 2012 (Monday). For users looking for canteen services, please visit Maxim's Food2 on 4/F Chong Yuet Ming Amenities Centre or the Union Restaurant on 4/F of Haking Wong Building.

"THANK YOU, OUR COFFEE SHOP" - Demolition of Main Library Coffee Shop

Over the past decades, the Library Coffee Shop, situated at the iconic location at Sun Yat-sen Place, has been one of the most favourite spots on campus for gathering and having a coffee (tea) break among HKU members. It is a great place providing just the right atmosphere for us to chat and mingle with our fellows, friends, and teachers.  Most importantly, some of you may not be able to start 
the day without taking a sip of your favourite blend or just grab a warm muffin while passing by the Coffee Shop.  It is also a stop for us to recharge ourselves in the middle of the day before we carry on with our learning and working.  To many of us, daily visit(s) to the Library Coffee Shop is like part of our study and work life in the University.

In view of the development of the University on the Main campus, the Coffee Shop would soon be re-designated as part of the University Street.  Hence, we will soon have to say Goodbye to our beloved Coffee Shop. Before the Coffee Shop has accomplished its historical mission, let us all gather again and enjoy the great moment hanging around and mingle in the mist of coffee aroma, and say “thank you” to all the staff of the Coffee Shop in the Farewell Party scheduled as follows:

I’m sure these will be great memories to the existing staff (partners) at the Coffee Shop too!!

After the demolition of the existing Coffee Shop in June 2012, a brand new Coffee Shop, incorporating with the Library's 24-hour Learning Centre, will soon be established in September 2012.  A Tender Exercise for selection of the new operator is going on in progress. Please stay tuned to our further update.
