Provision of Halal Food and Kosher Food outside campus

Fellow students and staff with special catering needs especially the provision of Halal Food and Kosher Food may find it difficult to fill you stomach on campus. Strickly specking, the provision is still not yet available in any of the campus catering outlet. As an alternative besides choosing solely vegetarian food in the campus eateries, please refer to the link for Halal Food and Kosher Food at some downtown locations for your reference. We wish this could be of any help for those who have strict dietary needs.

A New Beginning and Updates

Greetings to you all and a warm welcome to all freshmen and returning students and fellow staff! Right at the commencement of the new academic year, I would like to update you the latest development of the University catering services and introduce to you some new caterers after the tendering exercises during the summer.

[Update on Tendering Exercises]

1. Fong Shu Chuen Amenities Centre Food Court (Main Campus) The contract was awarded to Betterment Catering Management Ltd. The caterer is experienced in operating student canteen at another University as well as other Chinese Fine Dining outlets downtown. The major renovation work of the premises would be carried out from Nov
2008 to early Jan 2009, after which the Food Court would serve a variety of cuisines including the provision of Chinese Dim Sum. The outlet would be converted to a multi-functional catering venue and equipped with general conference facilities, making it suitable for holding official functions as well as banquet and high table dinner. It is expected that an all new catering outlet would be ready by the commencement of the 2nd semester on Jan 12, 2009.
[N.B.: Temporary catering provision would be provided from 8:00a.m. to 4:30p.m. (Mon-Fri) beginning from Sep 1, 2008 until early Nov 2008]

2. Bay View Restaurant (Sassoon Road)
The contract was awarded to Lucky Channel Ltd., the same operator of Bay View Restaurant for the past 5 years. The caterer would put some investment to upgrade the existing catering services. As a few major renovation works would be conducted in parallel with some works which will be done by the University during the semester break in Dec 2008/Jan 2009, no major renovation has been conducted by the caterer and therefore there was no interruption to the catering services at this outlet.

3. Jockey Club Student Village II Restaurant (JCSV-II) - Re-opened on Jul 30, 2008 The contract was awarded to Jexon Development Ltd., a caterer experienced in operating canteens in several government departments. The operation was commenced on Jul 30, 2008. Similar to the previous operator, the canteen would serve mainly local fast food and specialty meals to accommodate the needs of international students. The canteen opens DAILY from 8:00a.m. to 9:00p.m.
